The Boot Room Football Branding for Legends TV
The Boot Room is a nostalgic football interview series produced by Legends and fronted by John Fendley (Fenners), best known for his work as a producer and presenter on Soccer AM. The pilot episode stars Robbie Fowler, with future episodes planned around icons like Paul Merson and Jimmy Bullard. I was brought on to develop concept branding and visual assets for the show with a particular focus on storytelling through physical design.
Designing Nostalgia for a New Football Format
The Boot Room explores a player’s career through the boots they wore at iconic moments.
The set design, props, and supporting visuals needed to capture that emotional pull of pulling a pair of boots out of the box and being transported back to a match, a memory, or a milestone. My work involved developing the show's branding concept and designing the centrepiece for each episode: custom-built shoe boxes with fully branded interiors.
Bringing Stories to Life Through Packaging
Each box was crafted to feel like a real piece of sports memorabilia. Blending retail design aesthetics with personal storytelling. For Robbie Fowler’s episode, the external packaging replicated club colours and branding. Inside, the tissue wrap was based on one of his most iconic kits, while the inside lid listed key career stats and memorable moments. Even the ‘box label’ was custom, highlighting a specific match, date, and boot style that would become the focal point of the story.
Club Colours, Kit Culture, and Career Highlights
Every design choice was deliberate: from colour-matching to brand guidelines, to selecting historic patterns from each player’s era. These weren’t just boxes, they were vehicles for memory. I also created supporting print and digital assets for the pilot and early episode development with Jimmy Bullard and Paul Merson, tailoring each to reflect their style, clubs, and footballing legacy.
